21: UFOs in Prehistoric Drawings

One of the more interesting finds from our primitive past should not go unmentioned here. What appears to be evidence of humanoid life forms more advanced than that of humans can be found in innumerable prehistoric cave paintings, where depictions of both flying craft and what appear to be helmeted beings are to be found that are very similar in appearance to modern descriptions of UFOs and astronauts. These include:

  • Cave drawings in the Pyrenees Mountains at Lascaux, Altamira, and Les Eyzies, which were created by the ancestors of the Basques between 30,000 and 10,000 BC (Cro-Magnon man), and depict disc-like objects hovering over artistically drawn images of bison, mammoths, horses, and deer. Other depictions show these saucer-shaped craft landing, with struts extended and human-like beings climbing out.
  • A 10,000 year old rock painting in Jabaren valley in the North African Tassili massif depicts three domed craft hovering over a herd of cattle while a woman greets them with outstretched arms. One of the craft is shown sending a beam down to Earth.
  • In Fergana, Uzbekistan, a rock engraving that is at least 7,000 years old depicts a man wearing a helmet with tubes and breathing apparatus. In his gloved hands he holds a flat disc that resembles a modern record album or CD (perhaps representing the disc-shaped tablet that Sitchin describes as a possible flight chart?). A saucer craft hovers in the background, and beneath it is another man wearing a helmet with two antennae protruding from it.
  • Under the island of Yutuo in the Tungfing-hu lake, which lies in the heart of China, a labyrinth of caves was found that lead under the Hunan Mountains. Here, on a smoothly polished wall of granite, are depicted engraved drawings of animals running from hunters who hold strange tube-shaped weapons as they ride over the herd atop saucer-like craft.
  • Outside of Yamaga, near Kumamoto in the province of Kyushu, Japan, the ancient grave of a prince can be found that is painted with the depiction of a man in a three-pointed crown hailing seven white discs that float above him.
  • At Isumisaki on Hokkaido, in Japan, a prehistoric wall painting that’s at least 4,000 years old depicts a group of people holding hands as they watch a saucer-shaped object descend from the sky in a spiraling motion.
  • In the caves of Varzelandia, in the province of Minas Gerais, Brazil, drawings have been found that date back to 11,500 years ago. One drawing shows a dome-like object and a cigar-shaped object flying in the sky between the sun and moon.
  • In the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) at Ichihualasto, Argentina, are ancient cliff drawings of, among other things, what appear to be airplanes and people wearing spherical helmets and looking like spacemen.

Are these depictions to be taken for what they appear to be, or are we to excuse them all as coincidental similarities to what seems so familiar to today’s science fiction standards? The descriptions of these paintings seem to suggest that their creators may have been survivors of a cataclysm who were rescued, or hoping to be rescued, by the returning gods in their aircraft.
